The olive is native to the Mediterranean region, tropical and central Asia and various parts of Africa. I just received the (very small) olive tree in the mail in very good condition -- it was well-packed in excelsior & there was masking tape over the sides of the 4" pot to keep the soil intact. I planted the tree in an 8.5" ceramic pot with an 1/4" layer of sand over the top of the soil to protect the basil & Italian parsley seeds that I scattered around the base. Then I watered it & set it out on my back porch (southern exposure/full sun) & so now we'll see what happens ...

Out of the 4 live plants that I ordered from this company (1 olive, 1 pineapple, 1 blueberry, 1 banana), the only one that's not suffering AT ALL from transplant shock is the olive tree. And, incredibly, the tree's 2 lone branches (8" & 12") are already starting to show new growth. (Technically it's fall here in sunny Southern California, but we're still having quite warm days -- 70 to 90 degrees F.) So far, so good!
