This is the best can opener we have had in a very long time. It doesn't shred paper, the motor didn't burn out the first or second month we had it, the cutting mechanism isn't made of plastic, and best of all it is inexpensive! I'm considering buying a back up in case this model stops being made.
Can opener from Black & Decker is working fine.

What more can you say. I've had good experiences with B&D products so this time I went with their can-opener. It will be used more than the stove this year.
junk, keep looking

Positive - it runs very smooth and opens beautifully when it works, for maybe 9-12 months, just long enough to get past the warranty. Does open large cans easily, again, when it works. Negatives -must be more plastic gears, it works great but will not shut off even after can is removed. You have to unplug and wait. Very annoying when making a large pot of chili, etc., when there are 8-10 cans to be opened. Also, will not open, it NEVER did, small cans of tomato paste, I have to get out the crank opener. The small can just will not puncture and turn. Would NOT purchase again, would not recommend.

...for the birds! For instance, the little doo-dad with the magnet attached that clips into the handle snapped off. The way in which it was manufactured facilitated the malfunction. It was definitely not designed to last long at all. So, if they can't even make THAT part correctly, I can just imagine what the cheap plastic gears look like. I've had can openers for years, and this one did not last a few months. I guess you get what you pay for. This piece of work is going back...for a refund.
